Samsung Receives New Patent for Holographic AR Glasses for Creating Holographic Images
According to the foreign media SlashGear report, Samsung has been granted a patent for "holographic AR glasses", which can create holographic images through 3D projection. Samsung had already applied for a number of technical patents on AR, but this was the first time Integrate AR and holographic projection.
The glasses patent display method is different from smart glasses such as Google glasses, not through the image on the glass, and then send the image to the user's eyes.
The patent name is called "holographic see-through optical device." According to the patent description: "Most known augmented reality optical devices are based on a combination of eyepieces such as LCDs, LCoSs, CRTs, OLEDs, etc., or other spatial light modulators with compact size and image combiner to expand the resulting image. , such as a beam-splitting cube or a semi-transparent plate."
The patent also describes the possibility of augmented reality; "The augmented reality device can be applied to headshots or glasses, and can be configured as a holographic transparent optical device applicable to the eyes of the user, or as a monocular type device only in front of the eyes and Embedded microdisplay device."
Obviously, the display technology that Samsung wants to make is different from the head-up display made by many manufacturers, including its own and Google's. It is worth noting that although the patent was issued on August 17, 2017, it was actually submitted as early as July 2015. At present, Samsung has not announced plans related to the patent, but did not rule out future products will be related to patents.
