ST accelerates the IoT sensor design process

The AlgoBuilder firmware development tool of STMicroelectronics can separate the code writing from the firmware development, allowing users to use the function library modules that can be compiled immediately on the STM32 microcontroller (MCU) to create sensor control algorithms on the graphical user interface.

With the aim of simplifying the development of IoT devices based on ST's MEMS sensors and MCUs, AlgoBuilder tools help to quickly create and run proof-of-concept models. By dragging and dropping selected functions, connection modules, and configuration properties, users can quickly and intuitively create algorithms. AlgoBuilder verifies all design rules and automatically generates C code based on the graphic design.

Utilizing a variety of STMicroelectronics STM32 microcontrollers and MEMS sensors, including motion sensors, environmental sensors and silicon microphones, AlgoBuilder provides libraries of functions such as logic operators, signal processing, user input, vector operations, etc., as well as commonly used immediately available Functional algorithms, such as sensor controller, motion sensor calibration, activity recognition, exercise intensity, pedometer, etc. Users can also add custom functions to the AlgoBuilder function library.

Although other MEMS manufacturers usually provide software libraries, ST's AlgoBuilder is not limited to software libraries, but also provides a firmware development environment that can connect the software library with other logic libraries to create a software library that can be used in STM32 IDE (Integrated Development Environment) A complete firmware project compiled immediately inside. The STM32 IDE environment includes TrueSTUDIO and SW4STM32System Workbench for STM32, IAR-EWARMIAR Embedded Workbench for Arm® and MDK-ARM-STM32 for Keil µVision®.

The firmware generated by AlgoBuilder can be deployed on different STM32 microcontroller platforms, including the NUCLEO-F401RE and NUCLEO-L476RG development boards connected to the X-NUCLEO-IKS01A2 sensor expansion board, and the SensorTile IoT module from STMicroelectronics. SensorTile integrates STM32L476JG ultra-low power microcontrollers, motion MEMS sensors, environmental MEMS sensors, and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) communication technology.

Users can start the Unicleo-GUI application in AlgoBuilder to test the developed firmware and display the output data of the running firmware. Unicleo-GUI is a dedicated sensor graphical user interface, used in conjunction with ST's sensor expansion software package and X-NUCLEO expansion board, allowing users to display sensor data with timing diagrams, scatter diagrams or 3D diagrams.

AlgoBuilder is now available and can be downloaded for free.
