TI promotes the future of automotive technology

In my last blog, I talked about the challenges and risks of trying to predict the future of the car. Almost no matter what you do, you will encounter "reviewing the foot" of others. If your predictions are seen as too "short-term" (such as a car with a better sound system?), people will yawn to show that they don't agree. And if your idea is more daring, what is going to happen after 50 years (perhaps a car that can be folded up to save parking space) will face the "whirlpool center" of entertainment. risks of. The trick to master is to achieve the right balance. This is the unchanging truth.

With this in mind, I think it's time to introduce our short video of "TI is driving the future of automotive technology." This short film is full of technology - but then, for a technology company, how can we not talk about technology? We are convinced that semiconductors will affect almost every aspect of the future car – and that's what we have tried to bring out some of these changes. As you watch this video, I hope that you can at least ask yourself one question: "Can they really do it?" If you do this, our goal is achieved.

After a short break, I will give you some hints on how close these technologies are to your real future car. Please watch it now, I will wait.

Ok, did you ask yourself the question when you watched it? If asked, what technology is triggered? Although I won't explain them one by one, I will focus on a few of the techniques that might surprise you.

At the beginning of the movie, you saw the DLP for image recognition. You might say to yourself: "I thought DLP was for a projector, not for sensing?" It turns out that it does both. Using the DSP as part of a structured optical 3D scanning system produces extremely accurate 3D images. Depending on the resolution of the imager and the method used, the measurement accuracy of the distance can be on the order of micrometers - yes, micrometers. With such high accuracy, you can not only generate a very detailed facial image, but also detect breathing and heart rate.

What about the cool HD head-up display and the smart and smooth HD virtual car dashboard? DLP can also help. Not only does DLP offer superior color and high resolution, but it also enables curved displays – which is extremely difficult to achieve with standard glass LCDs. If you want to ask "When can it be achieved?", my answer is: We are currently demonstrating the working system.

My personal preference is the DLP Rain Reflection Compensation System. Since DLP was originally developed to quickly guide light by rapidly moving mirrors by power, the same method can be used to direct light from car headlights. Of course, there are some difficulties in the design of optical and lighting systems. However, DLP is sure to be able to direct the light around the falling raindrops fast enough to avoid the blurring and defocusing that we will always encounter when driving in the rain.

The 360° omnidirectional camera used to depict a bird's eye view of the surrounding conditions of the car is based on the powerful processing power of TI DSP technology. In addition to being able to "stitch" different angle images from multiple cameras into a seamless image, the DSP in our automotive processor can also serve as the core of video and radar security systems such as automatic braking.

Although I highlighted a few more surprising points in the video clip, I don't want to miss some of the seemingly ordinary parts, the security keyless entry and the transitions are so smooth that the driver is not aware of its operation. The vehicle start-stop system has its specific technical challenges. The good news is that TI has engineers working on relevant solutions to make sure we can provide them in the future.

Thank you again for taking the time to watch our video clip. I hope that you enjoy the same amount of fun as we did when we watched.
