Accelerating VR Performance Samsung Releases Mobile Processor Exynos 8895
Samsung Electronics announced the launch of its newest advanced mobile application processor (AP), the Exynos 8895. This is Samsung's first processor chipset utilizing the most advanced and industry-leading 10nm FinFET process technology. Compared with 14-nanometer technology, new product performance increases up to 27%, while power consumption is reduced by 40%.
The Exynos 8895 is the first processor to embed a Gigabit LTE modem supporting a 5 carrier-aggregated baseband, downloading Cat16 at rates up to 1Gbps, uploading to Cat.13, and speeding at 150Mbps.
Exynos 8895 is an eight-core processor that includes four M2 cores and four A53 cores. Using Samsung's Coherent Interconnection (SCI) technology, the latest processors integrate heterogeneous system architectures to provide faster computing speeds for a wide range of applications such as artificial intelligence and deep learning.
With its powerful GPU, multi-format codec (MFC), and enhanced 3D graphics performance, Exynos 8895 can minimize 4K UHD VR latency and implement the gaming experience with ARM's latest Mali-G71 GPU.
In addition, with its advanced MFC, the processor supports video recording and playback capabilities with a maximum resolution of 4K UHD and a speed of 120fps. It is also equipped with video processing technology that improves image quality for a higher quality experience. For example, for VR applications, Exynos 8895 can play VR video experience at 4K resolution.
Exynos 8895 has a separate processing unit that provides the required enhanced security solution for mobile payment using iris or fingerprint recognition. The processor also includes an embedded visual processing unit (VPU) that can identify and analyze items or moves to optimize video tracking, panoramic image processing, and machine vision technologies.
Xu Guo, Deputy Director of Samsung Electronics' System LSI Marketing Department, said: "In addition to the most advanced 10nm FinFET process technology, the new Exynos 9 Series 8895 also utilizes many of Samsung's cutting-edge technologies, including second-generation custom CPUs, Gigabit LTE modems, etc. With industry-leading technologies such as VPU, Exynos 8895 will drive the innovation of next-generation smartphones, VR headsets, and automotive infotainment systems."
According to Xiaobian, Exynos 8895 is currently in mass production.
