Apple's New Patent Exposure: Wearable Devices for Monitoring ECG
According to quartz , Apple recently passed a patent for a wearable device. US Patent Office data show that the device can monitor ECG (electrocardiogram) through a series of sensors.
This application leaves enough room for the shape of the product - it may be a ring, a bracelet, a brooch, and it does not rule out the possibility that it would be a watch again.
In general, ECG requires multiple electrodes to be monitored simultaneously to obtain more accurate data. The Apple technology uses pressure sensing technology to obtain data from different parts of the body to obtain more accurate monitoring results.
As early as last year, Apple released ResearchKit, an open source platform designed to allow patients to upload information through the iPhone and help doctors and scientists gather the data needed for research. There are also rumors that Apple has been planning to launch a non-watchable health wearable device.
Although Apple's Apple Watch also has the function of monitoring the heart rate, it actually uses an optical heart rate type. This data can only be used as a daily tracking and does not have much medical reference value. CEO Tim Cook also used to Indicates that Apple Watch did not intend to apply for FDA. However, he said, "I don't mind pushing out other products that have similar functions to watches," which also confirms the possibility that Apple will launch sports health equipment.
Although Apple, like other companies, often applies for new patents that are confusing, at least it should be good news for users who feel that Apple Watch's heart rate monitoring is not very good.
