The DS3231M is a low cost, high precision I2C real time clock (RTC). The device contains a battery input that maintains accurate timing when the mains supply is disconnected. Integrated MEMS (which is the abbreviation for MEMS "Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems". MEMS is called the United States, called micromachines in Japan, and microsystems in Europe. Micro-devices or systems that are integrated into micro-mechanisms, micro-sensors, micro-actuators, signal processing and control circuits, and interfaces, communications, and power supplies. MEMS is a micro-machining technology and ultra-precision machining technology for semiconductor integrated circuits. The development of the device has improved the long-term accuracy of the device and reduced the number of components in the production line. The DS3231M is packaged in the same device as the popular DS3231 RTC.
The RTC saves seconds, minutes, hours, weeks, dates, months, and years. For months less than 31 days, the date of the month will be automatically adjusted, including the leap year correction. The clock format can be 24 hours or a 12 hour format with /AM/PM indication. Two configurable calendar alarms and one 1Hz output are provided. The address and data are transmitted serially via the I2C bidirectional bus. A precision, temperature-compensated voltage reference and comparator circuit monitors the VCC status, detects power failures, provides a reset output, and automatically switches to the backup supply when necessary. In addition, the /RST monitor pin can be used as a key input to generate a microprocessor reset.
