Traditional portable device Class D amplifiers rely primarily on a stable battery voltage to provide high output power. As the battery is discharged, the maximum output power is reduced, resulting in problems such as volume reduction and increased distortion. The TPA2014D1 maintains a high constant output power over a wide range of Li-Ion batteries, ensuring clear and bright treble even when the battery is discharged. In addition, the TPA2014D1 has an overall efficiency of up to 85%, which significantly extends battery life and call or playback time.
Other features of the device also help to dramatically improve the performance of portable audio devices. The TPA2014D1 supports a wide operating voltage range of 2.5 V to 5.5 V and a power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) of up to 91 dB, which simplifies power supply design and allows direct connection to the battery without sacrificing sound quality. The TPA2014D1 includes an integrated phase-locked loop (PLL) that synchronizes the Class D amplifier to the boost converter clock, eliminating the audible beat noise that can be caused.
The TPA2014D1 Class D audio power amplifier is available now in a 4mm x 4mm QFN package and is currently available through TI and its authorized distributors. It will provide ultra-small, cost-effective and large board area at the end of May. 2.3 mm x 2.3 mm WCSP package version.
