New Pentagon adds 4,200 CreeLED luminaires
Government research has concluded that LED lighting will receive a return of less than four years and is expected to save 140 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
On January 6, two Pentagon officials signed a memorandum of agreement within the department to initiate the initiative to install LED lighting at the Pentagon as part of its next decade of development.
As part of the launch, more than 4,200 CreeLR24 recessed LED luminaires will be installed in five wedges on each of the five sides of the Pentagon.
The government has conducted extensive testing and case analysis of CreeLR24 luminaires. Preliminary work on the installation of the Pentagon includes measuring fixtures and comparing the effects of optional fluorescence technology. Cree said in a statement that this independent analysis showed a 22% reduction in energy consumption and improved lighting quality.
The return from the case analysis is less than 4 years. The analysis of this return takes into account energy savings, life-saving savings, reductions in HVAC system load savings, and removal of hazardous waste disposal costs for tribute fluorescent lamps. A large number of models are also used to determine the best lighting design - analyzing light distribution and spacing to ensure superior lighting and energy efficiency. The installation of five wedges is expected to save 140 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
The US Department of Defense's (DoD) third-largest project plan is to purchase LR24 models from Cree as part of its future development plan and provide these products to the Washington Headquarters Service (WHS), which oversees the Pentagon renovation project. . One of the people who signed the memorandum of agreement was Albert C. Ellet, acting director of WHS, and the other was John J. Kubrick, US Deputy Secretary of Defense, who supported advanced systems and concepts.
Renovation of the Pentagon
According to official reports on the renovation and construction of the Pentagon, the 4 million-square-foot wedge 2-5 in the Pentagon is a phased design/construction transformation. This project aligns all remaining unrenovated building areas with modern buildings, life safety, operational data automation systems (ADA) and fire regulations.
Work includes removing all hazardous materials, replacing all building systems, adding new elevators and escalators to increase vertical circulation, and installing new safety and telecommunications systems. The project began to be implemented in September 2001. The time to complete the progress should be completed in December 2011, and now it is three years faster than originally planned.
