IKEA Global Recalls Over 1.1 Million Ceiling Lights Due to Safety Issues
Recently, due to safety issues, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Health Canada and IKEA North America Services LLC (IKEA) jointly announced the recall of 840,000 sets of ceiling lamps produced in China. At the same time, IKEA (China) Investment Co., Ltd. also submitted a recall plan to the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision, and decided to recall some 350,000 sets of ceiling lamps from February 9, 2016.
The North American Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Health Canada and IKEA North America Services LLC (IKEA) jointly announced the recall of Chinese-made ceiling lamps. The number of products recalled in North America is approximately 840,000 (including 427,000 in Canada and 413,000 in the US).
The recalled ceiling lamps are the IKEA HYBY models and the LOCK models. The lamps have a dome-shaped white frosted glass lampshade with three plastic snaps on the lampshade. The HYBY model has four circular decorative patterns. The lampshade is 15 inches (38.1 cm) in diameter and has two bulbs in the ceiling lamp. The LOCK lampshade is 10 inches (25.4 cm) in diameter and has a light bulb in the ceiling lamp. The style and product number information are attached to the product label on the lamp housing. The HYBY product number is T1011 and the LOCK product number is T0201.
It is reported that the reason for the recall is that IKEA has received 224 consumer complaints from all over the world, claiming that the plastic buckle of the lampshade is broken and the ceiling lampshade is dropped, posing a threat to consumer safety. Of the 224 consumer complaints, 11 were reported as consumer injuries.
The number of products recalled in North America is about 840,000 sets (including 427,000 sets in Canada and 413,000 sets in the US). The products are sold at IKEA and online () and recalled. The sales date of HYBY products is from October 2012 to January 2016, and the price is US$13/set. The recalled LOCK products are sold from November 2002 to January 2016 at a price of US$5/set. .
To this end, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada advise consumers to stop using the product immediately and immediately contact IKEA for a refund.
China’s news from the AQSIQ Defective Product Management Center showed that due to the risk of falling of the lampshade, IKEA (China) Investment Co., Ltd. recently submitted a recall plan to the Shanghai Quality Supervision Bureau and decided to recall three ceiling lamps. : HYBY, LOCK, and RINNA, the number of recalls in mainland China is 352,849.

IKEA (China) Investment Co., Ltd. received a customer report reflecting that the glass lampshade of the ceiling lamp suddenly fell due to breakage or incorrect installation of the plastic clip; there were also customers who reported that the glass lampshade broke during the installation of the lamp. In order to protect the personal safety of customers and prevent similar incidents from happening again, IKEA (China) Investment Co., Ltd. decided to recall the above three products. Customers who have purchased HYBY, LOCK or RINNA ceiling lights can be removed and returned to any IKEA store for a full refund without the need to purchase a voucher (receipt).
