Microchip Announces Next-Generation JB Multizone 2.0 Technology and Related Mobile Applications

Microchip Technology Inc. , the world's leading provider of integrated solutions for integrated microcontrollers, mixed-signal, analog devices and flash memory , today announced the launch of the JukeBlox® 4 platform at the Spring Electronics Show 2015 in Hong Kong. The second generation of MulTIzone audio technology and related mobile applications designed for overall home audio and multi-room applications. The new generation of JB MulTIzone 2.0 technology combined with the JB App enables tightly synchronized, highly stable audio streams to multiple speakers. The JB App is a turnkey mobile app that makes it easy to set up and operate wireless speakers.

The overall home audio and multi-room audio system allows the user to set multiple speakers into one zone so that the same audio stream can be played simultaneously. In this way, the user can create multiple zones and play different audio streams in each zone. For example, when children play outdoors, they can play a pair of speakers in the yard to play pop music, and when preparing dinner, let the four speakers downstairs play soothing classical music.

JB MulTIzone 2.0 uses advanced technology to reduce the degradation of sound quality common in traditional Wi-Fi® streaming applications. With Wi-Fi Direct, there is no need to connect every speaker in the same zone to an access point, eliminating the common problems associated with access point overload. Bypassing the access point can also reduce RF bandwidth consumption by half, thereby improving the quality of streaming media transmission and/or adding more speakers in the same area. In addition, Wi-Fi Direct adds Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM) to reduce the cause of regional speaker delays and packet loss, resulting in tight audio sync playback with minimal audio degradation.

The JB App is a complete mobile application that enables OEMs to quickly deploy a complete, integrated home audio solution without having to manage an application development project. OEMs can choose the right source code to develop a custom application, or simply rename the application and publish it to the user. Users can use the JB App to create and modify zones, select audio sources and easily connect speakers to a local Wi-Fi network. The JB App source code is available for free and supports the iOS and AndroidTM platforms.
