So are the core GPUs falling from the sky? Obviously not. SMIC's GPU technology is derived from S3 Graphics, which VIA acquired from the United States. Although S3 Graphics has already been technically driven by Nvidia and ATI, using S3 Graphics's previous technology as a basis can enable SMIC to start at a relatively high starting point and take a lot of detours.
