Former Xiaomi Vice President Hugo Barra joins Facebook to be responsible for VR business
On January 26th, Facebook CEO Zuckerberg announced that former Xiaomi Vice President Hugo Barra joined the company and served as VP Vice President (VPVR), leading the VR team, including the Oculus team.
Hugo Barra said: "I am very much looking forward to joining the Facebook team. Developing virtual reality as early as AR/VR is just a science fiction novel, is my dream, and now we can take a selfie together in virtual reality. I learned from Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun (Weibo) that there is no greater vision in our industry than breaking through the status quo and bringing greater change to the vast majority of users. I am looking forward to joining Facebook and changing VR. Be mainstream and look forward to working with you (Mark Zucker Burke), Brandon Eric (Oculus founder), and Mike Clop (Oceus C team)!
On January 23, Xiaomi's vice president Hugo Barra announced on social media that due to health problems, he decided to leave from Xiaomi and will return to Silicon Valley in the future.
Hugo Barra said: "In February, after China's New Year, I will leave my current position. Before I return to Silicon Valley to start a new journey, I still need a little time."
Speaking of the reasons for leaving, Hugo Barra said: "I realized that living in such a single environment in the past few years has caused great damage to my health."
The following is the full text of Zuckerberg's announcement:
I am excited to announce that Hugo Barra will join Facebook and lead the VR team including Oculus. Hugo is still in China, so we can sit together with VR and it's a good fit.
Hugo and I knew it when he was still responsible for developing the Android operating system. He then worked at Xiaomi for many years, bringing creative products to millions of users.
Hugo and I believe that VR and AR will become the next generation of mainstream computing platforms. These technologies will give us the opportunity to experience many new things more completely and creatively. Hugo will help us build such a future, and I am very much looking forward to his joining.
