High-brightness LED railway handheld signal application

The light-emitting diode ( LED ) has a long life, good reliability, shock resistance, and is not easily damaged. With the characteristics of LED, a new light source has been researched to replace the incandescent light bulb.

LED is an electroluminescence light source. The principle of illumination is to add a forward voltage to both ends of the PN junction. Then, holes in the P region will flow to the N region; and electrons in the N region will flow to the P region. As the composite of minority carriers and majority carriers releases energy, some of the energy is converted to heat and the other part is converted to light. The color of the LED is determined by the substrate and the material that is turbid. In addition to white light, it is basically pure monochromatic light. The light color is easy to control, so it can be widely used in various LED traffic lights, LED hand signals, LED screens. Wait.

Conventional railway hand-held signal lights generally use ordinary incandescent bulbs or inflated incandescent bulbs as light sources. Red, green, and yellow polycarbonate filters are used to generate corresponding red, green, and yellow signals. The amount of toner added during the process is difficult to control accurately, resulting in a color that is not pure. On the other hand, polycarbonate will gradually yellow after long-term use, especially under sunlight, affecting the color of the signal.

Moreover, the incandescent bulb has a service life of only a dozen hours, frequent replacement, and the continuous working time does not reach the required time of more than 10 hours. The lamps are also heavy and inconvenient to carry. At present, many manufacturers use red, green and yellow LEDs as signal light sources, and some manufacturers use multiple super bright white LEDs as white light sources, which can fully meet the requirements of handheld signal lamps.
