MWC17 Core Trends: From 0 to M, leading vendors are transforming based on innovative services
We have all missed the ecology and services of building QQ and WeChat, but we can no longer miss the innovative service opportunities brought by the Internet of Things and the new generation of wireless communications, because it represents a business transformation that is taking place. From MWC17, you have the opportunity to change the global market and industry ecology no matter what products and services you offer now.
If the PC-based Internet and smartphone-based mobile Internet have created many innovative entrepreneurial opportunities from 0 to 1, then the combination of various "traditional industries" with the Internet of Things, next-generation mobile communications and cloud computing is opening. A vigorous transition from 0 to M. Leading companies in all industries are driving a shift from products and services to their own operational architecture. This will be the driving force behind restructuring the overall economy and individual financial statements. The magic wand is innovative services, and IoT technology, cloud computing and 5G technologies will support this innovative business that drives transformation.
At the "World Mobile Communications Conference 2017 (MWC17)" held in Barcelona a few weeks ago, the professional ICT industry ecological construction and marketing service agency Beijing Huaxing Wanbang Management Consulting Co., Ltd. sent a frontline team to participate. After the meeting and multi-party exchanges, participation in many events and post-conference analysis, Huaxing Wanbang believes that the most heard and most noteworthy word at this MWC is TransformaTIon, or "transformation."
In order to promote the transformation brought by digital services, more and more manufacturers from all over the world form various alliances, and the domestic Chinese service-oriented manufacturing alliance was also established in the same period of MWC17.
Such a transformation is to transform the business model by adding new services based on market resources such as successful products, services and channels. Finally, a variety of portals and devices can be used to form ubiquitous services (XaaS, X-as-a-Service). The 5G and Internet of Things (IoT), which were of great concern to everyone, will be the support of this transformation. At the same time, this kind of transformation driven by various new ICT technologies and vendors has involved many industries, and the initiatives of industry leaders are worthy of attention.
As the first industry event of “2017 Huaxing Wanbang Global ICT/Semiconductor Journeyâ€, Huaxing Wanbang’s field team and rear team carefully analyzed this transformation and found that: from large operators, communications and IT equipment manufacturers, software and ICT first-tier companies such as solution providers, from traditional product manufacturers, city and regional governments, to chip suppliers and semiconductor intellectual property (IP) providers who barely meet directly with end consumers, are offering innovative services. Become an important force driving transformation.
Huaxing Wanbang believes that this transformation mainly has the following characteristics: First, it has different main innovations from the Internet and mobile Internet era, and is driven by leading enterprises in various industries; secondly, the ultimate realization is innovative services. Millions of users can quickly import and change the business model of leading vendors. Third, the opportunity to introduce services is everywhere. Some leading companies that are far away from consumers in the traditional sense have already started. Fourth, today from high speed The 5G to dual connectivity/multi-connection technology to the low-speed global IoT network is providing a full range of support for this transformation.
First, from "0 to 1" different from "0 to 1", it not only changes the market accessLike many viewers, the frontline team of Huaxing Wanbang intends to go to MWC17 to focus on the upcoming technologies such as 5G and NB-IoT. As a result, more leading companies such as Lenovo and BMW are pushing innovative services on the spot. ICT giants such as Huawei and Ericsson fully support the digital transformation of services.
Therefore, a strong feeling of Huaxing Wanbang is that although the smaller innovation teams in the Internet and mobile Internet era rely on venture capital, the innovation model from 0 to 1, and then to N will continue to move forward, and it is still worth everyone. Attention, but at the same time, the transformation of the global leader companies in many industries relying on innovative services to achieve today will have a huge impact on the social economy.
This kind of transformation is not only based on the existing annual shipments or users of Million (millions), but also the new services provided by their own hardware products or service channels. Millions, tens of millions or even hundreds of millions of Million (million) units of shipments or market access, and more importantly, it has brought a new development model for these leading companies:
First of all, the “smart†products launched by these vendors are no longer just the piggybacking of related functions, but also a live user service platform with innovative services, customer transaction accounts and Internet resource aggregation; secondly, transactions between these vendors and users. It no longer exists only in the product sales, but creates a long-term service stickiness, which also brings more and continuous sources of income to these manufacturers. Third, users can also get a better experience. To create new value for the user.
For example, at MWC17, Lenovo's "Understanding Communications" under the Lenovo Venture Capital Group launched its first truly e-SIM-enabled notebook computer worldwide, and Lenovo entered the global mobile communications virtual operator. At the same time, Lenovo has also changed the "one-time sales" model with computer users. The user's Lenovo ID enhances the stickiness and interactivity between Lenovo and users, and is expected to bring new and long-term business opportunities and benefits to Lenovo. .
Products with a well-known communication e-SIM service include Lenovo's various notebooks and tablets with built-in Lenovo Connect service (with LTE modem). After purchasing such a device, users can easily and easily connect to the network by downloading identity data information through Lenovo ID. When traveling around the world, users can purchase local traffic packets through Lenovo ID and automatically switch to using local network services. If you have multiple Lenovo devices, you can use the same Lenovo ID to log in and share traffic for cross-regional, cross-network, cross-device, cross-account, and cross-border services.
Lenovo unveiled its global mobile communications service at MWC17, becoming a new virtual carrier with multiple partner networks
With the shipments of tens of millions of Lenovo Connect laptops, tablets and smartphones every year, Lenovo’s understanding of communications will enable Lenovo to become a virtual operator with tens of millions and hundreds of millions of users worldwide at an extremely fast rate. This transformation is not only significant for Lenovo itself, but also brings huge opportunities to baseband and RF chip vendors for LTE Modem and smart card chip vendors for e-SIM services.
Of course, the leaders who advocated and promoted this digital service transformation at this year's MWC are not only Lenovo, but also leading companies from all walks of life. BMW not only teamed up with Intel to showcase cars that can be automatically warehousing, but Fathi El-Dwalk, vice president of information and communications electronics, said in a 5G forum, although the core function of the car is transportation. (mobility), but BMW will not only produce smarter cars, but also provide more services to customers through such connected cars.
In addition, major operators and leading ICT infrastructure and solution providers are providing solutions to accelerate the transformation of digital services. From the live demonstrations and speeches of many operators at the show, they can learn that they are actively investing in new services and services supported by cloud, 5G and Internet of Things through the establishment of relatively independent laboratories or venture capital funds. Development and application. One of Huawei's visions at MWC17 is the Cloud-Powered Digital Service, and it is the entire ecosystem to support the digital transformation of operators and their users. At the Huawei booth, the Huaxing Wanbang team met Huawei's technology partner Softcom Power team.
iSoftStone is a leading innovative IT service provider in China, focusing on China's smart city and industry Internet construction. The company's market covers countries such as North America, Asia, Europe, etc. At the same time, it is also a partner of Huawei, the four major state-owned commercial banks and many provinces and cities. The company has deep cooperation with Huawei. For this reason, the company's chairman and CEO Liu Tianwen brought the company management team to participate in some activities of Huawei at MWC17. Subsequently, the two sides released a series of broader and in-depth cooperation at the “Huawei China EcoParty Meeting 2017†held in Changsha.
So, if we missed QQ and WeChat, it doesn't matter, because technological innovations such as Internet of Things, cloud computing and 5G will give us more opportunities. But Huaxing Wanbang believes that our most important thing is to make cars, computers, TVs, refrigerators and all products "live" with intelligence and network technology. These products must have their own accounts, sensor fusion, and communication to the cloud...
In addition, this digital service-driven transformation should be applicable to all industries, without worrying that your own products are not sold to end users, because then you will read the more interesting XaaS phenomenon seen by the Huaxing Wanbang frontline team at MWC17. And an analysis of them.
Second, from the "core" XaaS, where to load innovative digital servicesIf Lenovo's service-driven transformation is because Lenovo's products can be sold to end users, then in MWC 17, you can see many companies that do not directly deal with end users, and also transform through the introduction of digital services. For example, the lowest-level technology providers such as chip companies and semiconductor intellectual property (IP) providers are also beginning to load innovative services or emerging businesses. This service-driven transformation from basic products such as semiconductors will eventually support or directly lead to the XaaS era.
XaaS proposed by Huaxing Wanbang is an abbreviation of X-as-a-Service. It draws on the concept and saying of "Software-as-a-Service" in the IT industry, and uses mobile Internet and cloud computing. Technological innovations, loading digital services on countless multiple portals or devices, so that we can get all the services we need, like health and safety, entertainment, payment, and work, as easily as utilities like water and electricity. Support and many other emerging services.
These devices or portals may not necessarily be the products that are commonly used, but they can be ubiquitous products. For example, Ericsson President and CEO Börje Ekholm said in an interview with MWC17 that he pointed to a SCANIA truck on the Ericsson booth. This is one of our IoT devices. At the same time, many ICT vendors that only do B-to-B business will be found in MWC17. They are starting from their rich market and technology fields to provide services for enterprises or the public to drive their transformation and achieve new growth. .
For example, this year's MWC, in Qualcomm's huge booth, in addition to display Gigabit LTE, 5G solutions, existing SoC and GPU chip products, from the Internet of Vehicles to wearable applications, and other Qualcomm ICT technologies In addition, the service and technology of a subsidiary called "Qualcomm Life, Inc." was exhibited. This subsidiary is no longer just a chip or technology solution company, but a new service company.
The company provides multiple encryption of medical data and distributes it to relevant medical and health management organizations, as well as medical device manufacturers and medical institutions to provide medical Internet of Things (IoMT) technology and services. Its partners already include Novartis (NovarTIs), Medtronic and Boehringer-Ingelheim. That is to say, through Qualcomm Life, Qualcomm is entering the medical data cloud service and the Internet of Things operation service, and verified the MaaS in XaaS, namely Medical-as-a-Service.
In addition to chip companies such as Qualcomm, and companies that provide IP products to chip companies are also promoting their service transformation. What is very interesting at this MWC is that Rambus, which has always been known for providing advanced memory and interface intellectual property, has packaged huge advertisements of the Financial Times (Financial TImes) during the conference to promote its unified payment platform. To provide mobile wallet payment services for commercial transactions. Rambus's shift from providing IP products to chip companies to providing payment services to commercial enterprises is also known as PaaS, or "Payment-as-a-Service."
Prior to joining MWC, Huaxing Wanbang analysts visited one of the world's largest manufacturers of flat panel display devices, BOE's global headquarters in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone, which started in addition to producing various sizes of LCD and OLED display panels. Diversify the industry and get involved in the fields of big health industry and smart home. Among them, BOE uses its 27-inch 8K electronic frame developed by the advantages of display technology to connect to many art institutions such as museums and galleries through the network, which can provide customers with high-definition art decoration display. This service should be DaaS. , that is, "Display-as-a-Service".
When Huaxing Wanbang’s colleagues visited BOE before the show, the iGalary art service based on its advanced display technology was as shocking as its large-scale advanced manufacturing scene.
Through the exchange and extension analysis on MWC, Huaxing Wanbang believes that the Internet of Things is entering a new stage of development under the support of new communication, chip and cloud computing after the concept mature period and early development. The characteristic of this stage is that the Internet of Everything is no longer a problem, but based on the characteristics of "objects" such as equipment and even chips, the development of targeted and innovative services.
XaaS will bring many business innovations and changes in the future. For example, shared bicycles are innovative service portals and equipment that people have not thought of before. Looking ahead to the future of business model innovation, it may be done soon: instead of cycling, the bicycle is loaded with consumers (such as the standard parking has a red envelope, the red envelope may be issued by the mall). So XaaS is a new opportunity for the development of the Internet of Things.
3. When will 5G arrive? Diverse and flexible coverage is no longer a problemAt this MWC, 5G is of course a focus and hot spot, and many seminars and forums are discussing 5G standards, field testing and actual deployment. At the same time, the previous analysis also said that although the ultimate goal of the Internet of Things is innovative services, its foundation and core support are networking technologies, especially various wireless connectivity technologies. So many major business changes based on service innovation will only happen when the 5G era arrives? The answer is certainly not, because today there are diverse wireless protocols, coverage and solutions for different needs that are sufficient to support current service innovation.
Looking forward to future application scenarios and ultra-high bandwidth, 5G is very exciting and yearning. For example, at MWC17, ZTE released a full range of high- and low-frequency pre-commercial base station products in 5G, and demonstrated the 50Gbps peak rate of 5G high-frequency base stations at the exhibition site. These 5G high and low frequency serial pre-commercial products exhibited by ZTE support 3GPP 5G NR new air interface and 15GHz, 28GHz, 60GHz and other frequency bands, and adopt Massive MIMO, Beam Tracking, Beam Forming. 5G key technologies, fully meet the diverse scenarios and needs of 5G pre-commercial deployment.
Although the 5G standard and field testing will take some time to finalize and complete, these 5G technologies that can provide super bandwidth have already demonstrated a comprehensive ecology at this MWC. ZTE's 5G high-frequency pre-commercial base station and its strategic partner China Mobile jointly demonstrated. At the same time, Intel also presented and introduced its complete high-band 28GHz RFIC semiconductor solution, including chips and specially packaged modules, to the Huaxing Wanbang frontline team to support future industrialization. At present, ZTE has completed 5G single point technology and prototype verification, and entered the solution verification and product development stage.
Of course, as we enter the 5G era, as part of our social resources, every megabyte of bandwidth and every kilometer of coverage is costly. While technology can make these costs and costs lower and lower through more reuse, better experience, and higher returns, the core is that consumers and users pay for the services they need. Therefore, when mobile communications provide faster and more services, the flexibility required for services is even more important.
At the MWC site, there is another live demonstration that is worthy of attention: China Mobile and Cobham Wireless have demonstrated live demonstrations of LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) dual connectivity systems supporting 4G and 5G networks. The system demonstrates the increase in network throughput and capacity through carrier aggregation while using radio resources from multiple mobile cellular base stations. This dual connectivity or multi-connection system satisfies the current cost-effective and highly flexible application of existing 4G LTE cellular base station infrastructure and 5G cellular base stations when transitioning from 4G to 5G.
China Mobile's dual-connection/multi-connection demonstration based on the Keben WirelessTM500 test terminal illustrates the flexible 5G evolution
By adopting the TM500 network test solution from Keben Wireless, China Mobile demonstrated a real-time dual-connection system for carrier aggregation (Carrier AggregaTIon) on the LTE-A cell at the MWC site, which simultaneously receives with one test terminal. The multi-channel signals from two different eNodeBs have a network throughput of 864 Mbps. At the same time, the multi-connection demonstrated in the field network environment has a network throughput of 1.6 Gbps. These data rates are about three times the rate offered by current standard LTE, demonstrating that Covent Wireless' dual-connected systems have the ability to be applied to existing carrier networks.
In order to support different innovative services, in addition to ZTE's 50Gbps ultra-fast rate and Keben wireless's dual connectivity/multiple connectivity, more IoT applications require small data traffic and require miniaturization of their applications/devices. Low power consumption and low cost, such as monitoring of environmental data, usage and equipment status in many municipal applications. As a result, global private network coverage emerged. Although MWC is hosted by the GSMA Association, which is attended by many operators, Huaxing Wanbang has also seen many private agreement and network providers also shine on MWC.
Industry organizations, chip and equipment manufacturers and operators from the low-power wide area network (LPWA) field are also a hot spot of this MWC; from the current development trend, there are three typical types in the field. The company or organization is worthy of attention:
The first category is the operator of a global low-power IoT network, typically Sigfox. The company's low-power, low-cost and non-high-bandwidth applications enable networking from sensors to devices by building networks that span major regions of the world, as well as providing unified standards and APIs. The company plans to reach coverage in all developed regions and major developing regions around the world by the end of 2018. At the same time, Sigfox has also received support from major global IoT chips and solution providers, including Silicon Labs.
Silicon Labs and other chip companies also support the development of low-power wide area network (LPWA) technology and the extension of the global network
The second category is the LPWA Technical Standards Organization, which is typically the LoRa Association. The association also took a group of members such as Actility at this MWC. Its grand momentum represents the vigorous development of related ecology, and it also means that private LPWA network technology and services have room for development. In view of the fact that many companies in China have been engaged in LoRa-related products and technologies, this article will not further analyze and describe them here.
The third category is a full range of IoT service providers offering IoT devices, networks and cloud services, typically Libelium. The company provides a variety of IoT modules, SDK/API, network management and cloud connectivity and resolution services that support smart cities, smart agriculture, logistics, retail and utilities, ensuring plug-and-play and connectivity by obtaining certification in key markets. Interoperability has also gained widespread attention in recent years. It is characterized by standardization of Internet of Things devices and network diversification to facilitate rapid application.
Therefore, for the various network needs of innovative services, today's wireless communication technology and network construction can meet most of the applications, whether it is ultra-high bandwidth applications, or dual connectivity/multi-connection between China Mobile and Keben Wireless. Supported transition applications, or Sigfox's global IoT network coverage for low-power applications with devices such as Silicon Labs, and wide-area applications for NB-IoT and LoRa. The final device product definition and design implementation can choose the most suitable solution from which to access the cloud network.
ConclusionAt the same time that Huaxing Wanbang team participated in MWC17, Huaxing Wanbang’s colleagues in Beijing participated in the inaugural meeting of China Service Manufacturing Alliance. This newly established alliance under the guidance of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology also represents that China is actively promoting the transformation of manufacturing services. Therefore, we have reason to believe that the Chinese economy and many industries will adopt cross-border support with the support of a new generation of information and communication technologies. Innovation in the world has entered a new realm.
Finally, I would like to thank the China Service Manufacturing Alliance, Taidou Microelectronics Technology Co., Ltd. and Shenzhen Ruicai Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. for supporting Huaxing Wanbang Global ICT/Semiconductor Tour.
