Regiment partnered with LG to supply Samsung with 100,000 panels

As the two giants of South Korea's international consumer electronics industry, Samsung and LG have maintained their status as rivals for many years. The fierce competition has allowed the two companies to have never cooperated in the electronics field for a long time. However, in business negotiations, last year LG and Samsung finally reached a cooperation, the former will provide Samsung LCD panel news, breaking the long-term competition between the two sides formed by the non-supply panel unwritten requirements.

LG provided Samsung with large-sized LCD panels that greatly eased the tension in Samsung's electronic panels. It was recently reported that Samsung’s first TVs with LG Display LCD panels are likely to be available early next year. About 100,000 units.

The reason for the shortage of Samsung panels is largely due to Sharp's suspension of supplying LCD panels. It is understood that Samsung had about 10% (4 to 5 million) TV panels produced by Sharp SDP's 10th generation line, accounting for about 50% of Sharp's total capacity. After Sharp was acquired and reorganized by Hon Hai, it actively resumed Sharp TV production capacity, reactivated multiple production lines, and expanded its production capacity. In order to ensure the demand for Sharp TV LCD panels, it is announced that from 2017, it will stop providing Samsung with large-size LCD panels.

Samsung has occupied the first two titles in the global TV market for eleven consecutive years. However, starting this year, Samsung has gradually begun to reduce its LCD panel production line and shift its main production capacity to AMOLED. It is worth mentioning that Samsung has occupied 98.5% of the world's small-sized OLED panel production capacity, and it is difficult to find a dominant position.

In addition to cooperation with LG, Samsung also actively seeks cooperation from Chinese panel makers to Chinese panel makers to purchase liquid crystal panels from panel makers such as BOE through an open auction, and has incorporated shares of Huaxing Optoelectronics for TV panel production.

At present, Samsung is mainly focusing on the research and development of quantum dot technology in the TV field. This year's new Q series QD TVs have the ability to display on the quality display. However, there are also reports that Samsung will launch a 150-inch Micro LED TV at the CES show early next year, but I doubt that Samsung’s future focus in the TV field should still be quantum dots.
